Wholesale
We supply a small number of places near us, three mornings a week, with the same buns and loaves we sell across our own counter. It is a real part of what we do, and it is also the part with the least spare room in it.
How an account works
Minimum order
Twenty four items per delivery, mixed however you like across the range. For bread on its own the minimum is ten loaves. Below that the delivery costs us more than the order is worth, and we would rather say so than quietly put the price up.
Delivery days
Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, arriving between half past five and seven. We deliver ourselves, on a bike for the near ones and in a small van for the rest, so you are dealing with somebody who baked it.
How far we go
About three miles from the bakery. It is not a rule we enforce with a map so much as the distance we can cover and still be back before the counter opens.
Ordering and changes
Standing orders are set once and adjusted by email. Changes for a given delivery need to reach us by 2pm two days before. After that the dough is already mixed and the numbers are fixed.
What we can supply
Most of the menu, with two practical notes and one exclusion.
The filled buns travel well and are the most common standing order. They arrive baked and cooled, and they are best sold the same day. Several places warm them for ten minutes before the morning rush, which works.
The steamed buns we deliver either steamed and chilled, for you to steam again to order, or unsteamed and chilled, if you have a steamer and want them made on your premises. The second is better and it needs a conversation first.
The breads are straightforward. Sourdough is the one thing with a hard cap, because it is baked once and there are only ever about forty of them.
We do not wholesale the sweets and drinks. The coffee is obvious enough, and the sweet things are made in small numbers for our own counter.
What we do not do
No sale or return. We bake to your order and you own it when it arrives, which is why we would rather talk you down to a number you will definitely sell than take a bigger order and credit half of it back.
No exclusivity in an area, and no promise not to supply the cafe two streets away. We are too small to make that promise honestly.
No own label. Our name goes on the box. You are welcome to say where it came from or not say, as you prefer.
Asking for a price list
Email hello@panbuns.com and tell us four things.
- What sort of place you are, and roughly where.
- Which of the three parts of the menu we wholesale interest you.
- Roughly how many items a week you think you would sell.
- Which of the three delivery mornings suit you.
We reply to everything, usually within two working days. If we have no room we will say so plainly rather than leave you waiting on a maybe.
Taking on new accounts
Two or three times a year, when the morning genuinely has room in it. If you write when we are full we keep your note and come back to you when something changes, which does happen.
