One adult and one child work together at a bench, and the price is for the pair. The dough is made up ready so nobody spends the first half hour waiting, and the two hours go on shaping, filling and eating.

How the morning goes

Everyone starts with a plain round bun so there is a win in the first twenty minutes. After that there is a sweet filling and a savoury one, and children generally choose sweet twice, which is allowed. The last half hour is baking, and there is squash and coffee while you wait.

It is noisy and there is flour on the floor by half past ten. That is the class working as intended.

What you should know before booking

The child needs an adult with them the whole time, and the adult is doing it too, not watching from a chair. Children from about six get the most out of it. Younger than that and the two hours are usually too long.

The oven is hot and there are knives on the bench, so we ask that pairs stay together at their own station. If you would rather do this one on your own, An Introduction to Steamed Buns is gentler on the timings.

What you take home

  • Eight buns per pair, boxed, sweet and savoury
  • A recipe sheet written for a child to follow with help
  • A small bag of flour and a paper cutter to keep
  • Aprons stay with us, but the flour on your coat is yours
